European Mountain-ash - Sale Price: $99.95 The Mountain-Ash, European, Sorbus aucuparia, is known for its showy white flowers and its numerous bright red berries. Its alternate name Rowan comes from an old Scandinavian word meaning red. The bark of this tree is smooth and dark gray, and is marked with horizontal lines. European Mountain-Ash is planted for its ornamental qualities and as a source of food for birds. The fruits mature in the late spring but often remain on a tree through fall and into early winter. Best used as a specimen plant, it is upright when young and spreading at maturity.
