Stella de Oro’ (sometimes spelled Stella d’Oro) has become a bona fide garden favorite, with almost too many benefits to mention! This perfect daylily (a former “Perennial of the Year”) has fragrant, ruffled buttercup-yellow flowers with apricot throats that measure about 2-½ inches across. These flowers are a beautiful contrast against forest-green, dense, sword like foliage. Plants normally get about a foot high and a foot or two wide, and can take the heat and drought of hot climates; it can even thrive in clay and acid soils. It’s a repeat bloomer, and will keep painting your garden with vivid color from May through July. ‘Stella de Oro’ prefers full sun and soil with good drainage; if you comply, you attract hummingbirds and butterflies, while discouraging rabbits and insects. ‘Stella de Oro’ is wonderful for small places, such as containers on patios or the small garden.
