Dianthus - Raspberry Swirl
The Dianthus 'Raspberry Swirl', Dianthus 'Devon Siskin', (sometimes called Siskin Clocks) is a mesmerizing plant! 'Devon Siskin' has dense mounds of grey green, evergreen foliage that grows to 7 inches tall with a spread of 12 inches. Producing bright pink flowers with deep burgundy edging and central disks, these blooms drown the foliage in late spring to early summer. As they age, the petals fade to white and the picotee edges changes to magenta.  If they are deadheaded, they will bloom again in the fall! Dianthus grow best in sunny areas and prefers limited moisture and prefers a cool climate, full sun, and rich, well drained soil; very easy to grow. This plant is tolerant of short periods of dryness too. Water 'Devon Siskin' during dry periods, once or twice per week. Add a general purpose fertilizer once a month.  After the flowers have died, cut the stems to ground level. 'Devon Siskin' provides a profusion of cheerful, charming, bright pink flowers that become a truly colorful addition to any perennial garden!  * Easy to grow * Vigorous * Drought tolerant

The Hibiscus 'Blue River II', Hibiscus moscheutos, is the first true, original, large, pure white flowering Hibiscus and should not be missed! It has a plant height of 4-5' and wonderful 10 dinner plate-sized, 5-petaled, hollyhock-like flowers blooms.  Individual flowers are very short-lived (usually one day), but one or more flowers usually open each day, and this continues in succession from midsummer to early fall! The light green leaves make a wonderful contrast.  'Blue River II' is easily grown in average, medium to wet soils in full sun. It does best in moist, organically rich soils, but does surprisingly well in average garden soils; do not allowed to dry out.  Plant 'Blue River II' in locations protected from wind to minimize risk of wind burn. If you deadhead individual flowers this will maintain a neat and colorful plant appearance. New growth shoots are slow to emerge in spring, however, once new growth begins, it proceeds quite rapidly; provide regular fertilization during this growing season. The Daylily, Eenie Weenie, 'Hemerocallis 'Eenie Weenie', is a favorite summer-blooming sun perennial with showy clusters of 1>-inch light yellow flowers with a green throat. The Eenie Weenie is a true dwarf as the grass-like clumps of foliage reaches a mere 10 inches tall. It is an early to mid-season re-blooming daylily. To promote new foliage and re-bloom, cut the plant back to 6 inches after it blooms. This plant makes a fantastic groundcover or edging as it is a true dwarf. Daylilies can survive many harsh conditions that other plants cannot including: polluted city environments, slopes, poor and dry soils, near pavement that is salted in winter, and under Black Walnut trees (not affected by juglone).

Sedum (Autumn Stonecrop) Summer Glory, Sedum spurium 'Summer Glory', makes an excellent green groundcover, particularly for hot, dry sites with poor soil. This sedum likes sunny to partially shaded areas of the garden. This variety of sedum forms a low carpet of small, rounded green toothed leaves that develop reddish edges during the cool fall months and it spreads easily to form a thick patch. Clusters of bright carmine pink star flowers appear in midsummer to early fall. A fast grower, it is also a good choice for tubs and mixed containers. Trim stems and dead flower heads back in early spring. Summer Glory forms a habit that is somewhat like Fulda Glow and establishes quickly. This sedum is easy to maintain and will thrive in poor soil, but should be well drained.
