Grass - The Blues Little Bluestem
The Grass 'The Blues Little Bluestem Grass', Schizachyrium scoparium 'The Blues', has attractive deep blue foliage. The fall color is a burgundy red. It works well in mass plantings. It does well in a variety of soil types and is drought tolerant. Extra water and fertilization is not needed! The attractive foliage is upright and is open to spreading the fine textured leaves. Little Blues Bluestem grasses have delicate and inconspicuous inflorescence in late summer and become silvery when dried. The foliage remains attractive in winter. The fall color varies from tan to copper, orange, and dark orange red. To keep this plant looking neat, prune back to the ground in early spring before new growth begins. The Blues can be divided every 3 years or so in early spring. Besides its outstanding appearance, The Blues provides nest sites, cover, and food for birds! The Iris ‘Caesar's Brother’, Iris siberica, has rich, deep intense blue flowers with slightly bluish-green leaves.  Blooming from late spring into summer, it has a plant height of 36” and a spread of 18-24”. Iris ‘Caesar's Brother’ is one of the most easily grown Iris’.  It prefers moist, well-drained soil in full sun, but will tolerate some afternoon shade.  This Iris needs plenty of water throughout the season to looks its best.  It can also tolerate a poor, dry soil because its thick roots penetrate the soil deeply. Iris ‘Caesar’s Brother’ is useful in many ways and is best used around pools, ponds and water gardens, and for mass plantings.  It can be planted on difficult banks and prevent erosion. The Lavender 'Hidcote', Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote', is a dwarf variety that is a compact grower and reaches 18-24 inches tall.  It produces fragrant spikes of dark purple flowers in summer.  These flowers produce the purest lavender scent! Being drought tolerant, it is ideal as a short perennial shrub border or as an herb in a kitchen garden.  Lavender was selected in 1999 as the International Herb Association Plant of the Year! This plant is great for hedges and edging because 'Hidcote' has a more erect and compact habit.  It boasts 2½-inch, linear, downy leaves on strong stems.   The leaves open white, then turn a pale gray-blue-green color.  This Lavender grows in a well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil in an open, sunny spot.  For better drainage, add sand in the hole when first planting this lavender. Trim back in spring to encourage bushier growth; also deadhead after flowering. The sweetest scent of all lavender, it is also the most cold hardy, and it should be pruned back the first year. If you want dried flowers,  pick when showing color but before fully open; tie in bunches and hang in a cool, airy place. The Geranium ‘Biokovo’, Geranium x cantabrigiense, produces white flowers with light pink veins and stamens. Hosta Deja Blu, Hosta 'Deja Blu', is an intriguing new sport of Hosta 'Blue Boy'.  It has blue-green foliage, with a cream lightning bolt, that dances between the center of the leaf and the chartreuse green margin.  The four colored leaves are very striking! Being the bluest hosta in your garden, it will produce light lavender flowers that add even more color to this plant in mid-summer.  It is a low care perennial that is ideal for a slightly sunny area. This hosta grows best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5.  Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. 'Deja Blu' needs high-filtered or dappled sunlight which is necessary for clean, healthy growth.   Morning sun is tolerable and will help to intensify the leaf colors, but hot afternoon sun is usually deadly to hostas!  Hostas also grow well in city environments where the air may be polluted by car exhaust, etc. With each leaf showing off four bright colors, 'Deja Blu' becomes quite an impressive hosta! * Low maintenance * Bluest hosta * Mounded habit
