Hydrangea - Nikko Blue The Nikko Blue Hydrangea, ‘Hydrangea macrophylla’, has blue blossoms on a plant with a strong constitution which make Hydrangea macrophylla 'Nikko Blue' one of the best. This hydrangea grows best in partial sun. Morning sun and afternoon shade is idea. The Nikko Blue performs best in acidic soil. Vigorous growing multi-stem plant, it has tiny individual purple flowers that are produced in profusion in long, dense trusses from July to September.
