This very reliable water lily is one of the most prolific varieties available, and its smaller size makes it a perfect choice for anything from a container garden to a small or medium-sized pond. Many growers feel this is the finest white hardy lily due to its freedom of bloom and always-dependable performance. The white flowers are 4-6 inches wide, the leaves are 8-9 inches wide, and the overall plant spread is 3-4 feet wide. This plant grows best in full to partial sun. We recommend growing ‘Virginalis’ in a 7.5 quart container (available from naturehills.com). Also available from naturehills.com is Aquatic Planting Media and Lilytabs Water Lily Fertilizer. The English Lavender Munstead, 'Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead', is one of the Lavandula angustifolias or English lavenders.  This plant is a branched, woody, perennial lavender plant that grows much like a small evergreen shrub.  The narrow leaves are about 2 inches long and have a pleasing gray-green color. A fragrant and a robust lavender, 'Munstead' makes a great hedge.  English Lavender ‘Munstead’ blooms profusely in the spring, after which a good pruning will provide an attractive gray bush with highly aromatic leaves! ‘Munstead’ is able to tolerate heat better than most other lavenders.  For good drainage, add sand to the bottom of the hole, especially if planting it in clay soil.  In order to have a bushier and taller plant, it should be pruned back the first year. This compact variety of English lavender has lavender blue flowers and is not only great for landscapes, but the flowers have a rich sweet flavor and are especially good when used with sweets, such as in baking and even added to tea! Only the flower petals should be eaten.  Pull the flowers away from the little brown or green cap.  Lavender flowers can be fresh-frozen or dried. The Verbena Homestead Purple, 'Verbena canadensis 'Homestead Purple', produces deep purple, velvety flowers that dance above this vigorous groundcover type selection for a spectacular show all summer. The leaves are deep green, coarse-textured and up to 4 inches long. This plant matures at 1 foot tall and 3 feet wide. Homestead Purple is a nice compact plant with a bushy growth habit. The Grass 'The Blues Little Bluestem Grass', Schizachyrium scoparium 'The Blues', has attractive deep blue foliage. The fall color is a burgundy red. It works well in mass plantings. It does well in a variety of soil types and is drought tolerant. Extra water and fertilization is not needed! The attractive foliage is upright and is open to spreading the fine textured leaves. The Coreopsis ‘Limerock Ruby’ has beautiful rosy red, glossy flowers that cover the finely cut foliage. The dark green thread-like foliage makes a great contrast with its flower color, blooming from June through October. ‘Limerock Ruby’ is extremely drought tolerant with a plant height of 12” and a spread of 23-27”.  With cool autumn weather, the flowers make an even more outstanding color scheme. ‘Limerock Ruby’ should be planted in full sun, and even though it is drought-tolerant and tough, it does need well-drained soil.  It should be cut back early and late summer to extend the bloom period. Coreopsis ‘Limerock Ruby’ looks great with any type of grass, in borders or mass plantings in sunny gardens. Coreopsis is easy to grow making it a great plant for the beginning gardener.
